Fundraising 2022


How have the funds been

used for the benefit of the children?


  • May 2022 - cost of buses for all school tours paid for by some of the funds raised in the Christmas Raffle organised by the Parents' Association
  • June 2022 - cost of ice-cream van after the beach walk during Active Week, Goodie Bags after Football Blitz
  • June 2022 donation towards continued upgrading of outdoor school facilities


Role of the P.A.


The Parents' Association of Shanagarry NS is affiliated with the National Parents' Council (NPC). Parents' Associations that are affiliated with the NPC must work in accordance with guidelines issued by the NPC with the concurrence of the Minister for Education.

The Department of Education (2019) states the following in relation to Parents' Associations:

  • The Education Act (1998) provides the legislative basis for the existence, recognition, and purpose of a Parents' Association.
  • A Parents' Association will work with the Principal, Board of Management and staff for the best possible education for children of the school. All parents/guardians are members of the Parents' Association.
  • The approval of the Board of Management is needed prior to any fundraising activities by the Parents' Association.
  • School Finance and the expenditure is the legal responsibility of the Board of Management.



The National Parents' Council (NPC) states:

  • Any activities undertaken by the Parents' Association must have the prior approval of the Board of Management.


Shanagarry NS is a registered charity and is obliged to comply with the Charities Regulator with regard to fundraising.

Only the Board of Management can authorise the use of the school name for any activity related to the school.
